Bet ONline

2012 is a month in and there are a few online poker rooms that are starting to emerge as real options for players looking for a new online poker room.  There are many reasons why online poker players may be looking for new rooms, even though the new poker rooms will not have had enough time to fully distinguish themselves as legitimate options for players looking for reputable online poker rooms.  That being said new online poker rooms often offer great bonuses and promotions in order to entice new players to try them out and they are also often filled with fish because the stronger, professional players are unlikely to move to a new poker room, especially a new one where there is always the risk of not seeing there money again.  Add in the fact that you won’t find many higher limit games and the new rooms are generally filled with fish and casual players.

Without further ado let’s take a look at some of the best new poker site options for 2012:

BetOnline.com

BetOnline has started to really push their online poker room to go along with their strong (but still new) online sportsbook.  BetOnline offers new players freerolls running 24/7 and 25% in free play bonuses on every deposit up to $900.  That’s right, BetOnline isn’t just trying to bring new players to their room with a sign up bonus, but they are instead rewarding loyalty by offering the same bonus for every deposit you ever make at the site.  On top of that you also receive a tournament bonus of 200 promo bucks for every $50 you deposit.  These promo bucks can then be used to play in BetOnline tournaments!  Those are some great promos and the best thing is they keep coming, it’s not a one time bonus and then you are forgotten about.

BetOnline is quickly getting the reputation for having a very fishy online poker room and they accept US players, which is great, especially after all of the big poker rooms (PokerStars, Full Tilt, UB) stopped allowing Americans at their sites.

WinnerPoker.com

Winner Poker had a great 2011, but they are still considered a new poker site heading into 2012, and the online poker room will look to continue to build their reputation moving forward.  Unlike BetOnline, Winner Poker does not accept US players and they are on the popular iPoker network, that is currently the second largest poker network in the world.  Winner Poker is enticing new players to try out their site by offering a massive 250% matching bonus up to $2000 on first deposits.  This is definitely one of the biggest first deposit bonuses in the industry, but to be fair the clearing conditions are horrible.  When you look at the bonus in detail you earn $5 of the bonus for every $27.78 in fees that you pay.  This is much worse than the clearing conditions of other smaller bonuses at other rooms, so it’s important to read the fine print.  If you plan on sticking around and playing out the entire bonus then the $2000 may still be worth it.

It will be interesting to see what new online poker rooms continue to improve and gain momentum in 2012 and which ones inevitably falter.  I expect these two to continue moving in the right direction, but I think Bet Online is the best bet right now.  Visit BetOnline.com to check it out for yourself.

One week ago today was the last day that the poker world was running smoothly.  Players were completely ignorant about what would happen the following day, which would later be known as pokers black Friday.  The traffic was running strong at the big poker rooms such as PokerStars and Full Tilt and the American players at these sites were showing up and helping these sites be what they were, the top online poker rooms in the world.  All that changed last Friday when the FBI forced PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and UB/Absolute Poker to close their doors to all American residents.  I thought it would be interesting to look at the traffic stats of these top poker rooms a week later to see how drastically their traffic has declined, while also checking some other poker rooms that accept US players to see if the Americans are relocating to other online poker rooms.

I decided to take the average from Monday to Wednesday of each week (before and after) to get an idea of the change in traffic from one week to the next.  I included the “Black Friday” rooms, as well as the top 2 rooms that already did not accept United States players and the top 2 rooms that still do accept US residents.  These traffic stats were found at Poker Scout.

“Black Friday” Poker Rooms Traffic

PokerStars Peak Traffic

April 11th-13th: 46,769
April 18th- 20th: 37,598
Change: -9,171
Percentage:  -19.61%

PokerStars is the biggest poker room online, but luckily for them they have a very strong international presence so although they lose a big chunk of their player base, their percentage decrease in traffic is much less than either Full Tilt’s or UB/Absolute Poker’s.  PokerStars dropped almost 20% from last week, but remains the largest poker room online by far.  In fact after last Friday’s event, PokerStars is now more than double the size of Full Tilt, which actually has really cemented PokerStars as a top destination for players (not including Americans of course).

Full Tilt Poker Peak Traffic

April 13th: 27,714
April 20th: 15,898
Change: -11,816
Percentage: -42.64%

Full Tilt’s traffic was hit hard by the loss of American residents.  Full Tilt actually lost more players in the week than PokerStars did, which indicates that Full Tilt had a very large American player base.  Full Tilt’s traffic stats are down over 40% and they will also be losing many of their sponsored pros, who are also American residents.  This includes many of the high profile faces of the site, such as Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan who will not be able to play while living in the United States.

Cereus (UB/Absolute Poker) Peak Traffic

April 13th: 3,600
April 20th: 1,611
Change:  -1,989
Percentage: -55.25%

The American player ban has likely hit the Cereus poker rooms of Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker the hardest.  These rooms traffic decreased over 50% and they have become just another small room that does not accept United States players.  I don’t expect many new sign ups to occur at UB or Absolute Poker in the near future.

Previous Non-American Room Traffic

I thought it would be interesting to see if other poker rooms that were already not accept American players had more or less traffic following the “Black Friday” events.  Non-American players could be wary of the United States FBI attack on their previous poker site of choice and they may consider moving to a room that is not in trouble with the States.

Party Poker Peak Traffic

April 11th – 13th average: 6,877
April 18th – 20th average: 7,756
Change: +879
Percentage: +12.78%

It seems like some non-American players who have accounts at both Party Poker and one of the “black Friday” rooms may be moving their poker play to Party.  This could be because the rooms that are being indicted have lost the trust of players.  Including ones who have not been directly affected (non-American residents).  It will be interesting to see if Party Poker can gain some ground on PokerStars and Full Tilt in terms of online poker market share following this event.

iPoker Peak Traffic (Titan Poker and more)

April 11th – 13th average: 6731
April 18th – 20th average: 6863
Change: +132
Percentage: +1.96%

The iPoker traffic looks to have remained fairly constant from the previous week.  It seems most non-american players who are wary of playing at PokerStars or Full Tilt have decided to move to Party Poker, but it will be interesting to see if the iPoker traffic ramps up in the next week.  Titan is the most trusted room on the iPoker network.  Download Titan Poker for an alternative to Full Tilt and PokerStars for non United States residents.

Remaining American Rooms Traffic

Merge Poker Peak Traffic (Carbon, Lock, Sportsbook and more)

April 11th – 13th average: 1,401
April 18th – 20th average: 1,985
Change: +584
Percentage: +41.68%

The Merge network saw some big gains from the previous week.  584 players at peak hours may not seem like a lot, but that indicates a 41.68% player base increase for Merge poker rooms.  Merge seems to be one of the few remaining options for US players and those that do not want to give up poker for the time being will likely be setting up accounts at Merge.  I suggest players looking to play at the Merge network sign up through Carbon Poker.  Signing up through this link will earn you 35% rakeback at Carbon Poker, which is the biggest and most respected member of the Merge Poker room network.

Bodog Poker Peak Traffic

April 11th – 13th average: 1,147
April 18th – 20th average: 1,515
Change:+368
Percentage: +32.08%

Bodog is another room that is still accepting United States players and has had a 32% increase in play from the past week.  In my opinion Bodog is the safest place for United States poker players to move their bankrolls to.  Bodog has been in the business for many years and has somehow managed to stay out of trouble with the United States government for this entire time.  Bodog is the biggest company and every player playing at your table is also from Bodog.  It’s nice to only deal with one poker room, rather than knowing players can be coming from a variety of sites, which is the case with the Merge network.  Bodog should see greater increases in traffic in the near future as more players realize they are a top option for not just poker, but also casino and sports betting.

Most online poker rooms provide a large list of possibilites for those interested in making a real money deposit onto their site, but even with the plethora of options given it can still sometimes be difficult to get money onto your favourite poker room.  One deposit option that every single online poker room will have in common is a credit card deposit option (usually Visa and/or MasterCard).  Visa is often the easiest and most used deposit method because almost everyone around the world has a Visa card and you do not need to set up an account with MoneyBookers or Neteller to make your deposit.  You can deposit direct through Visa.

Example of Visa Poker Site

Full Tilt is one of the easiest poker sites to deposit at online and this is one of the main reasons Full Tilt has grown to be the second largest poker room online.  Full Tilt allows players from around the world to play and deposit at their site.  This includes the Visa deposit method, which will usually work for the majority of customers.  Depending on your credit cards limit and the agreement with your bank depositing directly through Visa may still pose a problem for some people.

Top Visa Poker Sites

Some of the best visa poker sites in addition to Full Tilt include Doyles Room, Carbon Poker and PokerStars.  You will probably have heard of each of these rooms.  If an online poker room wants to be taken seriously it is absolutely essential that they include Visa as a deposit method.

Withdrawing Through Visa

Although Visa is definitely the most popular deposit method at online poker rooms, it is not possible to withdraw cash out of your online poker bankroll back on to your Visa account.  Poker rooms do provide many alternatives to this however, and getting your money out should be very easy.  Lets face it.  We don’t make deposits on to online poker rooms not expecting to win and be able to cash out.  Personal checks are one of the more popular withdrawal methods for individuals who made a Visa deposit.

The Final Word

To summarize, Visa is a great way to make a deposit to an online poker room.  Most banks will allow Visa deposits, but if your Visa card is denied you will have to take that matter up with the bank because it is through them that the final decisions are made regarding whether or not a transaction goes through.  Every respectable online poker room will accept Visa deposits, but you will usually have to withdraw via a personal check in order to get cash out of the account.

It has become very common for online poker rooms to have a casino section where players can take a break from the stresses of online poker and relax with some simple casino games.  The casino games that poker rooms offer include all of the popular casino table game so you can play blackjack, video poker, or even play roulette online.  It can be very nice after a bad beat to just hit up the casino section of the poker room and play until your anger has faded and you are ready to return to the felt.

Carbon Poker is one of the online poker rooms that has a casino section available for players.  Carbon offers blackjack, roulette, caribbean stud poker and video poker to players looking to take a break from the tables.  It is important to note however that the losses from these casino games aren’t recouped even if you are on the 30% Carbon Poker Rakeback plan.  A lot of players believe that the rakeback extends to the casino games and this is just not the case.

Party Poker is another top quality online poker room that offers casino games to players.  Party Poker’s casino is simply called Party Casino and is one of the many areas that Party Poker branched out into, the others being Party Bets and Party Bingo.  If you have never played at the Party Casino before then you should definitely use a PartyCasino.net Bonus Code in order to make sure you receive the sign up bonus from Party.

Overall I think it’s great that poker rooms are offering casino games to players.  There is no downside to incorporating them into the poker room.  If you don’t want to play them you don’t have to, but if you do get the urge they are there for your enjoyment.  Casino games are obviously not a great use of your money because of the house edge, but if they keep you from tilting your money away at the poker tables then maybe they do have their uses.
